Buildcon Concrete, the concrete arm of YTL Cement, has achieved a new sustainability milestone, with its Sentul and USJ plants officially certified under the SIRIM ECO 065 Eco-Labelling Scheme for concrete products. This certification affirms that ECOConcrete™ meets stringent environmental standards - including lower embodied carbon, improved resource efficiency, and enhanced safety - supporting more sustainable construction practices across the industry.

What Makes SIRIM ECO 065 Certification Significant?
Awarded by SIRIM QAS, the ECO 065 standard sets a high bar for environmentally responsible concrete. To qualify, products must meet one or more of the following criteria:

  1. Replace at least 25% of cement with supplementary cementitious materials
  2. Substitute 30% or more of natural aggregates with qualified alternatives
  3. Combine both approaches with a minimum 15% substitution of both cement and aggregates

Certified products are also tested for 18 types of heavy metals, ensuring they fall below strict safety thresholds. Even logistics practices - like safe, spill-free delivery - are audited under the scheme.
