In a session titled "Green & Innovative Construction Materials and Methods" at a recent CIDB Conference, YTL Cement's Head of Sustainability, Clarisse Loh, took the stage alongside industry peers to discuss the pivotal role of sustainable construction in shaping the future. Clarisse’s presentation, titled "Green Concrete for Sustainable Construction," delved into the inherent qualities of concrete as a resilient, low-embodied carbon material available locally.

During her session, Clarisse highlighted the need for advancements in technology to enhance cement production and concrete manufacturing. She also shared on ongoing efforts to achieve more sustainable cement by partially replacing clinkers in the production process.

Acknowledging the wider industry's responsibility, Clarisse spoke about YTL Cement's commitment to increasing the percentage of recycled content in their products. Additionally, she outlined the ongoing research and development exploring various materials and production processes for cement and concrete, aiming to offer more circular, low-carbon alternatives.

In a broader context, the CIDB Conference brought together diverse perspectives on environmentally friendly and innovative construction materials. Speakers included Huang Mei Si, Deputy Managing Director of CRT Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, who raised crucial questions about the environmental impact of steel and its potential for going green. Malaysian Timber Industries Board Deputy Director, Dr Loh Yueh Feng, shed light on the versatility of wood plastic composites (WPC) and their sustainable applications in construction.
