Sustainability in Building Materials

3 December 2021 | 10:00am – 12:00pm

Sustainability in building materials extends beyond the way it is used. It starts at the production process. This session will discuss how innovative concrete solutions can contribute to better performance for foundation and structures, while being a more sustainable option for construction.

Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Izni Syahrizal bin Ibrahim, Associate Professor, School of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia

Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Azreen bin Mohd Ariffin, Associate Professor, School of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia

About Road Maintenance

24 November 2021 | 2:00pm – 4:00pm

During this session, speakers will be talking about the importance of road maintenance. In the final instalment of this 5-part Masterclass series, participants will discover the true meaning of road maintenance and what defines maintenance, upgrade and new construction. Speakers will also discuss Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) and it affects the implementation of concrete roads throughout the globe.

Stabilisation Technology in Road Pavement

17 November 2021 | 2:00pm – 4:00pm

This session will provide participants an in-depth understanding into the significance of stabilisation in road pavement and the technology that goes into road stabilisation. Speakers will also offer an explanation of how each pavement structure and design can affect road pavements, while detailing the techniques engineers use for stabilisation and how it is used for the construction of roads.

Methods of Road Construction

3 November 2021 | 2:00pm – 4:00pm

The procedure and technique used in building a structure is referred to as the method of construction. It is well-documented and will guide a project from beginning to end. Many factors, such as material, equipment and machinery, as well as quality assurance and quality control, shall be considered when preparing the document to ensure that the project is completed successfully.

Methodology of Flexible & Rigid Pavement

27 October 2021 | 2:00pm – 4:00pm

Road pavement is the structure of a road that could be made of multi-layered different materials located above the ground (subgrade). The main purpose of pavement is to transfer the applied vehicle loads to the subgrade and underlying soil. Based on common design considerations, there are two different types of pavements such as flexible pavement and rigid pavement.

However, with the development of technology on equipment and machinery, followed by engineering knowledge, experience, and in-depth understanding of the property of materials, a new design method for the road that is more complex and robust has been developed, known as Semi-Rigid Pavement.

During this session, speakers will talk about the basic properties of pavements, the terminology used for pavements, the characteristics of different types of pavements as well as standards used for pavements, including the new JKR standard & Specification. Find out more about design criteria, road structures, material, challenges, and advantages of each pavement method.

Sustainability in Building Materials

9 June 2021 | 3:00pm – 4:00pm

Malaysia’s rapid urbanisation has resulted in concrete becoming a sought-after commodity to fuel the nation’s growth. And with an average of 191,000 m3 of concrete being produced every day in Malaysia, it also utilises non-renewable resources, such as sand.

So, what can industry practitioners do to make the construction industry more sustainable? This webinar will discuss the role of future civil engineers in making a difference to support more sustainable construction.
