>YTL Cement at LEAD Road to 70: A Legacy of Innovation and Future Vision
9 December 2024
LEAD 2024 marked a significant milestone for YTL Group, celebrating its road towards their 70th anniversary.
As part of the conference, YTL Cement hosted two insightful sessions.
Laying the Foundations
The morning session, titled "Laying the Foundations," discussed the rich history of YTL Cement. Joshua Yeoh, Director, Business Development was joined by two industry veterans, Joseph Benjamin Seaton, and Tan Check Hong to share their firsthand experiences of the cement industry in the early 80s. Both speakers presented a captivating glimpse into the challenges and triumphs that shaped the group’s journey.
The speakers discussed the group's resilience and innovation, particularly during the turbulent 1997 financial crisis. They highlighted pivotal moments, such as the establishment of the floating cement terminal, which ensured a steady supply of cement during a period of acute shortage. After the success of the floating terminal, YTL Cement harboured the ambition to own its own cement plant and solidify its position as a leading player in the industry. This aspiration, coupled with the group's enduring commitment to shaping Malaysia's skyline, continues to drive its growth and innovation.
Pioneering Innovative Building Solutions
The afternoon session, titled “Pioneering Innovative Building Solutions” focused on YTL Cement's vision for the future. Joshua Yeoh, alongside Joel Lee, General Manager of Information Technology; Rachel Yeoh, Executive Director; and Theresa Wong, Director of Human Resources, explored the group's commitment to digital transformation, sustainability, and human capital development.
The speakers discussed the importance of embracing technology to drive efficiency and innovation. They also highlighted YTL Cement's sustainability initiatives, aimed at minimising its environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices. Additionally, the session looked into the group's focus on human capital development, emphasising the importance of investing in its employees to drive future growth.
A Shared Vision
Both sessions underscored YTL Cement's unwavering commitment to building a sustainable future. By leveraging its rich history, embracing innovation, and prioritising sustainability, the group is well-positioned to continue its legacy of excellence.
