>YTL Cement Donates RM1 Million to Sarawak Unity Education Fund
2 May 2024
YTL Cement made a RM1 million contribution to the Sarawak Unity Education Fund (SUEF), in line with Sarawak state's commitment to educational advancement. The donation is in support of the initiative’s efforts to provide scholarships to students from Sarawak and develop them into future leaders for the state.
Dato' Sri Michael Yeoh, Managing Director of YTL Cement, presented a mock cheque to YB Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Premier of Sarawak during the official launching ceremony of SUEF in Sarawak recently. The donation presentation was also witnessed by YBhg. Datuk Richard Lee Say Tshin, Chairman of SUEF.
SUEF is a private sector initiative to provide scholarships to students from Sarawak, aiming to create opportunities for deserving students from lower middle-income families, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their pursuit of higher education. These bond-free scholarships are offered to students pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in selected public or private universities in Malaysia.
This contribution is part of YTL Cement’s commitment to contribute towards the development of the Sarawak state. In 2023, YTL Cement signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Innocement Sdn Bhd, a company owned by the Sarawak government, to produce cement and cementitious materials in Sarawak.
